Sunday 24 October 2021

The 17th AFCMA Congress 2021 was successfully organised as a Virtual congress by the Catholic Doctors Association of Malaysia led by Dr Freddie Loh  from 16th September to 19th September 2021.The theme of the congress was "Building Bridges through Healing and Spirituality"

253 delegates from across 3 continents and 14 countries attended and this included doctors, nurses, allied healthcare workers, religious and medical students. It not only had an extensive number of delegates, but also an array of world class international speakers. The notable Alimurung lecture alone garnered 777 views over the weekend. Similarly many of the other webinars became  of popular interest among delegates and garnered between 500-650 views. The Congress was officiated by his Grace Archbishop Julian Leow from the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur.

It was indeed a fulfilling weekend as Catholic Health providers strive to heal humanity while striking a balance with the teachings of the Catholic Church. The call to serve as instruments of the Divine Physician  requires compassion and humility. Many are caught at junctures trying to bridge healing with spirituality and it is congresses such as this one which gives us all the needed nourishment to keep us in check and help us make the right decisions at times of adversity.

We take this opportunity to congratulate Dr Shigeyuki Kano from Japan as the newly elected AFCMA president and we welcome his new committee and the chance to meet again at the 18th AFCMA congress which will be held in South Korea in 2024.
